The pike is Norway's largest freshwater predator and can exceed 20 kg. For sport anglers it is a prized trophy fish. The pike is an ambush predator that likes to lurk hidden in vegetation waiting for prey.
Large Toby (20–40 g) and large softbaits are the most effective options. Large wobblers and swimbaits imitate prey well. Strike fishing with lures is exciting and active. Use a wire leader to withstand the sharp teeth.
Cast along reed edges, rocky shores and submerged stumps. The pike likes to sit in the cover of vegetation and strike at passing baitfish. Active all year, but best in early spring (right after ice-out) and autumn. Lowland lakes with rich vegetation in southern Norway are the best spots.
